eBay classes filling up to help
people sell stuff

VILLAGE (KWGN) With money in a
tight squeeze, more of us these
days are turning to the internet
to pick up a few extra dollars.
In fact, a new survey showed
the average household has about
52 unused items, that could
bring in hundreds of dollars.
But would you even know where
to begin selling them online?
Welcome to eBay class.
These folks are among the
estimated 30 percent of all
adults surveyed who said they're
likely to sell personal or
household items over the next
three months to raise extra
cash.
Most of that done on sites
like eBay.
"More people are needing
extra money and they're
liquidating some of the items
they have in their homes," said
eBay Instructor Terry Gehrke,
"Their collectibles or items
that are just collecting dust. "
And eBay said its classes are
full right now because of the
economy and cost of living.
"I think people are spending
less money and they want to see
where they can get a bargain,"
said Alexis Cunningham, who is
taking an eBay class, "Where
their money, they'll get the
most bang for their buck with
their money. "
"It is estimated that the
average family has more than
$3,100 in items," said Gehrke,
"That means some of us have even
more than that. "
And everything from clothes,
to electronics, home decor,
furniture and cars are showing a
growth in sales on eBay.
These classes teach the
secrets to getting them sold.
"Show them the proper way to
register, show them what type of
PayPal account, because there's
three different ones and then
the best way to get a
professional looking photo, how
to write a description that's
going to sell," Gehrke said.
In fact, nearly half of those
surveyed by eBay said they are
turning to online sites to save
money on everyday purchases.

Harris Survey Finds More U.S. Adults Selling
Household Items for Extra Cash on auction sites like eBay
The eBay survey by Harris
Interactive found that one in 10 U.S. adults (11 percent) is
currently selling personal or household items to generate
extra cash, with the majority (59 percent) doing so via
online sales or auction sites like eBay. Additionally, 30
percent of all adults say they are likely to sell their
personal or household items over the next three months to
earn extra cash.
"Classes are full as more and more people are wanting to
sell their personal items for extra money on eBay"
says Terry Gehrke Denver, resident and a Certified eBay
Instructor. Terry continues, "With high gas and food prices
and a slow economy eBay is a great way to reach millions of
buyers that will pay cash for your unused items".
"Additionally, a recent
eBay/Nielsen survey discovered that the average U.S.
household has 52 unused items around the house originally
worth $3,100, meaning almost everyone can find existing
unused items they can sell to generate additional income.
When the going gets tough, the tough sell on eBay!"
According to a survey
conducted by Harris Interactive® on behalf of eBay ,
Americans are cutting back on spending in general, most
notably in these categories: apparel (52 percent); consumer
electronics and appliances (46 percent); automobiles and
automotive care (45 percent); and furniture and home decor
(38 percent), all of which map back to the best-selling
categories for entrepreneurs in eBay's top-10 selling
markets. These results speak to the profound impact eBay
sellers can have on Americans' wallets during these
challenging economic times. In fact 42 percent of U.S.
adults are currently turning to sites like eBay to save
money on purchases.
"Our research has shown that
the local business climate is one key factor in fostering
entrepreneurs," says Todd Stottlemyer, president and CEO of
the National Federation of Independent Business, America's
leading small-business association. "eBay clearly offers
everyone additional opportunities to start, grow and
maintain a business, whether they're looking to market
globally or simply to earn additional income in the current
economic climate."
